How to configure registration and submission dates

Set the submission period

  1. In Edit mode, click the Deadline section at the top of the page.
  2. Set the Submission period start and end dates and times.
  3. Select the correct Time zone.
  4. Use the toggles to enable or disable automatic email reminders for when submissions open and close.

Set a registration deadline

By default, participants can register anytime before the submission deadline. You can set an earlier deadline if needed.

  1. In the Deadline settings, find the question: "Will there be a registration deadline in advance of the submission deadline?"
  2. Toggle the option to Yes.
  3. Set the date and time by which all participants must be registered.

Add registration questions

You can ask custom questions during the registration process to gather information about your participants. This is a powerful way to understand skill distribution, facilitate team building, and measure engagement.

  1. On your hackathon page, click the + REGISTRATION QUESTION button located under the main header image.
  2. Choose a response format: Dropdown (single or multi-select), Free Form text (short or long answer), or Confirmation checkbox.
  3. Participant responses can be downloaded from the Hackathon Metrics page.

💡 Tip: Question Editor Updates

  • Reordering: You can drag and drop questions to change their order.
  • Links: You can add hyperlinks to question labels using the text editor.

High-impact examples:

  • To measure skill distribution: "On a scale of 1-5, how would you rate your experience with [Your Key Technology/API]?" (1=None, 5=Expert)
  • To understand roles & departments: "What is your current job title or role?"
  • To gauge motivation: "What is your primary goal for joining this hackathon?" (Learn a new skill, Network, or Solve a business problem)
  • To facilitate team building: "How familiar are you with our new [Product Name]?" (I've never used it, or I use it regularly)

Set team size limits

  1. Scroll down to the Projects section on your hackathon page.
  2. Click to edit the project requirements.
  3. Set a MAX TEAM SIZE to limit the number of members allowed on a single project.
