Survey participants, announce winners, & report on the event

Your hackathon is over and before you take a well-deserved nap, there are a few steps you should take to close the event:

• Survey your participants
• Announce the winners & distribute the prizes
• Report on the event

Survey your participants. 

Send your participants a short survey to get feedback. You can create your survey in any form tool you use and send it using the Announcements feature. Here are a few questions you could ask:

• What was your favorite part about the hackathon?
• What was your least favorite part?
• Which of the following did you make use of? Scheduled workshops, resources on the hackathon site, none (List out any actual activities you set up and allow them to select multiple)
• What can we do to improve the experience next time?

Announce your winners & distribute the prizes.

Selecting winners on your hackathon page is easy and it will give the winners a spotlight! Here is a helpful article on how to do this. 

If you need to gather information for your prize distribution, you can use the Announcements feature mentioned above and select the winners as the recipient list. 

Report on the event.

Devpost for Teams metrics exports and your own survey results will help you show your leadership the positive outcomes of your hackathon -- and hopefully, get you buy-in for the next one! Here are a few things you may want to include:

• Show the data
  • Participants: how many registered, how many submitted, how many learned something new?
  • Demographics: how many countries, departments, and skill sets took part?
  • Submissions: how many per category, how many ideas, how many prototypes, which projects won?
• Tell the story  
  • Quotes from the participant survey
  • Quotes from the judges
  • Shoutout notable, non-winning submissions
• Next steps
  • Explain what will happen next for the winning projects
  • Get buy-in for your next hackathon!
